About Psychotherapy
A psychoanalytic psychotherapist has had a thorough training in a sensitive form of listening and responding to you which aims to bring up your awareness of thoughts, feelings and memories which may be beneath everyday consciousness and which are likely to be a significant influence on your current issues and patterns of behaviour. As your awareness increases, your mind can grow, learn and develop instead of being stuck in repetitive, distressing or self defeating patterns.
Although a psychoanalytic approach understands that childhood experience is formative and significant, this is not at the expense of paying attention to your future aspirations, and the whole trajectory of your life is borne in mind.
Every therapy relationship is unique. You will not be pigeon holed or processed according to a set formula, but thought about and responded to creatively.
Coming for psychotherapy involves trusting sensitive personal material with a professional. For that reason, ethics, confidentiality, and the maintenance of safe and reliable boundaries are all taken very seriously. I subscribe to the UKCP code of Ethics.
